THE CHALLENGES OF THE R-20 FORUM IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF RELIGIOUS IDENTITY
Abstract
The G20 forum, which Indonesia is hosting in 2022, was accompanied by the implementation of the R20 forum initiated by PBNU. The forum is a meeting of interfaith leaders from various parts of the world. This meeting between religious leaders is an encouragement for religions to carry out peace and humanitarian actions. As a forum that becomes a bridge between religious leaders, there are challenges and also differences in goals that become bridges. Not to mention the narrative of wounds and the history of violence that occurred between religions, making obstacles in interfaith encounters rigid and mere formality. So this paper wants to examine the role and meaning of the R20 forum, in reconstructing religious identity. The dualistic meaning of religious identity, which can be interpreted as the root of violence, can also be interpreted as the root of peace. This research uses a literature review, using sources that review the results and direction of the R-20 Forum. Equipped with literature analysis related to the meaning of religion, and dualistic religious identity. Through this paper, it is found that the R-20 forum is a new hope for religion to focus on humanitarian, ecological and socio-economic issues. By prioritizing these values, the construction of the ambivalent face of religion will lead every religious community to prioritize the value of peace and humanitarian development.
